tuff-kote features
Only Tuff-kote permanently seals and waterproofs all exterior surfaces.
Incredible Strength and Adhesion
Unlike tar and rubber, Tuff-kote will stick to almost any surface and stay stuck. Tuff-kote is the only patching material that will adhere to tar and asphalt.
Permanently Flexible - Won't Crack
Besides tremendous adhesion, Tuff-kote is weatherproof, withstanding temperaures ranging from far below zero to above 200 degrees F. It doesn't soften or run in hot weather - or become brittle and crack in the cold. Tuff-kote also withstands attack by ultra-violet light, ozone and acid rain.
Totally Waterproof - Air Tight
Tuff-kote is a complete vapor and moisture barrier that prevents penetration by moisture and air, stops energy loss and shuts off rust. Tuff-kote sticks, lasts, waterproofs and is flexible -- when combined with Tuffglass Fabric, it has the strength and give to withstand the movement that causes cracks, breaks and leaks in all exterior surfaces.

General Application Guidelines
Preparation: All surfaces to be repaired must be sound, clean and dry. For roof repair, locate all leaks, cracks, joints and problem areas. On all surfaces, power-wash or scrub surface to remove loose, flaking material, including dirt, dust, mold, mildew, algae, organic debris and previous patching and coating materials. For heavy mold infestations, surfaces may require additional cleaning and scrubbing. Rinse thoroughly. Any wet insulation or wet, rotted material must be completely removed and replaced before using Tuff-kote. Area to be repaired must be flush with surrounding surfaces. For cracks wider than ¼", call factory before using.
New concrete and new concrete repairs and patches must be aged or neutralized with muriatic acid and water or primed with Primer-kote to ensure adhesion as Tuff-kote will not stick to high alkalinity surfaces. Seal and stabilize soluble asphalt with Primer-kote to prevent bleed-through and staining. Remove loose granules from brick, stucco, concrete or other granulated surfaces. Prime dusty, chalky or gritty surfaces with Binder-kote. Remove all efflorescence on brick or concrete surfaces before patching. Always do a test patch before patching to check for adhesion of all previously applied coatings, compatibility and soundness of surface to be repaired.
Application: Mix product thoroughly before using. Do not thin. Product warranty is voided if product is altered in any way. Keep lid tightly sealed after opening to prevent skin formation, stir again before each use. If skin forms, remove completely prior to mixing. Temperature range for application: 40 to 100° F for air, surface and material with a maximum humidity of 85%. Keep material at 72 to 100° F for best spread rate. Apply with brush, trowel, squeegee or putty knife. Average coverage rate will vary based on width of fabric to be used, application method and condition of surface. Allow a minimum of 20 to 25 square feet per gallon for finished patch. Final coverage rate is the sole responsibility of applicator.
Easy 3-Step Patching System
1. Apply first coat of Tuff-kote. Spread first coat of Tuff-kote at a thickness of 20-25 mils over the area to be repaired. The Tuff-kote compound should extend at least 2" wider than the edges of the fabric that will be used.
2. Embed Tuffglass Fabric. Measure and cut the Tuffglass Fabric to fit the area being repaired. Embed the fabric into the first coat of Tuff-kote. Fabric can be overlapped when patching irregular surfaces. Allow 2" of overlap on all sides. Smooth out wrinkles and excess patching material.
3. Apply second coat of Tuff-kote. Total patch thickness should be at least 40-50 wet mils. Double patch thickness when repairing gutter bottoms. The second coat of Tuff-kote should hide the fabric completely and be free of any pinholes or thin areas. Make sure the edges of the patched area are secured and well adhered to a sound surface. If desired, final coat can be applied with specialty applicators to match surrounding surfaces.
Tuff-kote will form an immediate watertight seal and will not be harmed by falling temperatures, moisture or high humidity.
Drying time: Drying time is completely dependent on ambient weather conditions. Tuff-kote will dry slowly in cool, damp weather or when humidity is high. Product will skin over, but stay flexible and pliable underneath. Do not use on walking decks or high traffic areas. Avoid maintenance foot traffic until fully cured. Tuff-kote can be painted over when dry with most quality paints formulated for exterior surfaces.
Clean-up: Clean tools with mineral spirits. Dispose of containers properly.
